Der Musketier Johannes Ottokar Grobe, geboren am 8. Oktober 1895 in Ehrenhain bei Altenburg, verstorben 1945 im Sonderlager 3 des sowjetischen NKWD in Berlin-Hohenschönhausen, trat am 22. Mai 1915 als Rekrut beim II. Ersatz-Bataillon des 64. Infanterie-Regiments in den Heeresdienst ein. Er war zunächst bei der 4. Kompanie des 6. Westpreußischen Infanterie-Regiments 149 eingestellt und nahm vom 20. bis 24. August 1915 beim Angriff auf Brest-Litowsk teil. Am 19. Oktober desselben Jahres erfolgte Grobes Einweisung ins Lazarett Sedan aufgrund einer nicht näher beschriebenen Krankheit. 1916 wurde er an die Westfront beordert und wurde bei den Stellungskämpfen in der Champagne vom 25.
